Watch and Sensitive Lists for Plant Communities in Nevada

(26 September 2003)

These lists are intended direct vegetation and habitat conservation priorities and data aquisition by the Nevada Natural Heritage Program (NvNHP). Qualification for these lists includes a presumed Global Rank of 1 - 3 or declining trends indicating some level of range-wide imperilment. Please see the headings for the individual lists for more details. In some cases, 'A' quality (pristine) occurrences of associations that are common in degraded states may be included. At present, state-wide vegetation inventories are underway, but far from complete. For this reason, associations are currently placed on the 'watch' list for a minimum of 6 months prior to moving them to the 'sensitive' list.

Nevada Sensitive Vegetation Association List

This is the list of vegetation associations in Nevada found to be rare (Global Rank 1 - 3) or with declining trends indicating some level of range-wide imperilment. In general, a sensitive association is any association whose long-term viability has been identified as a concern.

Nevada Watch-list of Vegetation Associations

This is the list of vegetation associations in Nevada that are either being considered for the sensitive list, or have been found to be rare but not significantly threatened. The NvNHP is gathering data on these associations to further understand their conservation needs. As more information is gathered on these associations, many will likely be moved to the sensitive list. Others may be removed from either list if found to be more common than previously expected or otherwise not at-risk. And some will remain on the watch list if found to be rare but not significantly threatened on a range-wide basis.
