Request Data

The Nevada Natural Heritage Program provides data on rare and at-risk species in the state. Our database is dynamic, and we work diligently to keep it updated, continually adding, updating, and deleting records to provide our customers with the most up-to-date data possible. The database does not represent a comprehensive inventory of all at-risk species in the state and should not be used to replace on-site surveys. Field verification is necessary by a qualified biologist at the appropriate time of year to detect all species of concern potentially present in an area. Please keep in mind that our database is only as robust as the data we receive. We encourage you to help us maintain the quality of our database. Learn more about how to submit your data.

Data are available in a variety of formats, including a simple Excel spreadsheet, ESRI shapefiles, or a personal geodatabase for areas ranging from small project sites to the entire state. Areas can be selected by a variety of criteria, including Township/Range blocks, map quadrangles, political boundaries, 8-digit hydrologic basins, ecoregions, elevation, and/or proximity to roads and water courses. GIS shapefiles of project areas can be submitted with a  data request via email. For smaller sites, we also provide data on species or habitats of interest known within an approximate 6-mile buffer zone surrounding the site. Fees are charged according to our fee schedule.

All data requests are subject to our Data License Agreement. Please review this carefully. All data provided by the Nevada Natural Heritage Program are non-transferable and are only authorized for use in the project specified on the data request form. Due to the dynamic nature of our database, we strongly advise that you update your dataset for a particular project frequently enough to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date information is being utilized. If you have any questions, please contact our data manager, Eric Miskow.

To request data, please fill out our data request form and submit via US mail, fax, or email. We strive to answer all data requests within 1-2 weeks, although complex data requests and current workloads occasionally cause longer response times.  If you are submitting a data request for the first time, please submit a signed Data License Agreement with your request.

Submit Forms securely online through DocuSign (DocuSign does not allow GIS attachments, please send project area GIS files to Eric Miskow at emiskow@heritage.nv.gov)
