AUTHORIZED USES: Each person or organization who accepts or uses data provided by the Nevada Natural Heritage Program (NNHP) agrees that all such data are the privileged, confidential property of the NNHP or of those who supplied the data, and that they are not to be transmitted to or duplicated for any other person or organization without our consent. Our consent is implied for necessary activities directly related to the stated purpose for which the data were requested. Any products derived from the data should cite the Nevada Natural Heritage Program as a source, along with the month and year we provided the data. All authorization is automatically revoked and denied for any and all past, present, and future uses of any data supplied by us for which we have not received timely payment.
Most of the precise taxonomic and locational data supplied by the Nevada Natural Heritage Program, including taxon identity, latitude, longitude, precision level, township-range-section-subsection, elevations, and map quadrangle information, are the result of ongoing analyses and quality controls performed by our staff using tools, concepts, and methods that are the property of The Nature Conservancy, Inc. The raw data we analyze are entrusted to us by various private and public organizations and individuals, obtained from published and unpublished literature, or in some cases derived from staff field surveys, and new data are constantly being received and incorporated. Our data are easily misused, such as by vandals, poachers, or by those using old outdated information.
SENSITIVE LOCATIONS: We generally withhold precise locational data for a few taxa considered highly vulnerable to collecting, poaching, harassment, or vandalism. General data for such occurrences are provided in printed form. The more precise data may be supplied on request if sufficient need can be demonstrated and confidentiality can be guaranteed.
TAXONOMIC COVERAGE: With few exceptions, we attempt to maintain current data on all species and subspecies in the state listed as threatened, endangered, candidate, or sensitive by any federal, state, or private organization, or otherwise considered at-risk by our Program. Specific information is maintained for raptor taxa by the Nevada Division of Wildlife (775-688-1565). The Nevada Division of Forestry, under N.R.S. 527.060-.120, protects and regulates the harvest of all cacti, yuccas, and evergreen trees, most taxa of which are not tracked by our office.
GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE: Our database incorporates recent and historical occurrence reports from throughout the State of Nevada. In many cases we have general information for areas outside the state, but we do not normally collect specific data for such areas. Except in rare cases where recent field surveys have been performed by our Program, our data only summarize past reports received by us, they are not definitive representations of all species present or absent in a given place, and they cannot be substituted for comprehensive surveys of any site or area.
LAND STATUS: Land ownership status is determined from the best available maps and other information, but usually is not further verified. We do not assess the ownership status of associated mineral and water rights, or the presence or absence of easements or other encumbrances.
