I have tried to get some funding for electrophoresis on all our Botrychium species in the Spring Mountains. I'm close to getting it -- haven't yet, though. This would be through USFWS, with Dr. Don Farrar as the investigator. Unfortunately, we have gotten so little precipitation this year. I don't know how it will affect the emergence of the trophophore.

I have checked on Lotus argyraeus in our herbarium. We have three collections, all from around McCullough Spring, McCullough Mountains (UNLV 7900, 8074, 8075). The material matches closely the published descriptions I have, and it does key well to L. argyraeus ssp. multicaulis. The plants are obviously short-lived perennials (although some specimens are probably in their first year), and they have dehiscent fruit. The Jepson Manual indicates that this taxon is known from the New York Mountains, not all that far from the McCulloughs. I am curious as to whether we will find the plant this spring, as we survey the southern extension of the Spring Mountains.

I think the Mimulus ovatus question is worthwhile looking into. David Thompson took a long and hard look at Mimulus, and I would sooner agree with him than with a flora writer who never even visited Steamboat Hot Springs. You should also put somebody on it since you may find that the hybrid has become a species.

Lesquerella goodrichii: In my Lesquerella study [for Intermountain Flora], I came to the conclusion that Stan Welsh is right to put L. goodrichii into synonymy with L. occidentalis var. cinerascens.
