STATE OF NEVADA LIST OF FULLY PROTECTED PLANT SPECIES
(Current as of 05 March 2008; last changes 10 March 2005)

As of the date above, the 24 plant taxa listed below have been declared by the State Forester Firewarden to be threatened with extinction pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes (N.R.S.) 527.260-.300, and are on the state list of fully protected species of native flora (N.A.C. 527.010), also known as the Critically Endangered Species List). For each of these species, no member of its kind may be removed or destroyed at any time by any means except under special permit issued by the state forester firewarden (N.R.S. 527.270). Requests for permits should be directed to the State Forester Firewarden, Nevada Division of Forestry.

State law provides that a species or subspecies of native flora shall be regarded as threatened with extinction when the state forester firewarden, after consultation with competent authorities, determines that its existence is endangered and its survival requires assistance because of overexploitation, disease or other factors or because its habitat is threatened with destruction, drastic modification or severe curtailment (N.R.S. 527.270). The law also authorizes a program for the conservation, protection, restoration, and propagation of selected species of flora and for the perpetuation of the habitats of such species (N.R.S. 527.260, .300).

Formerly listed taxa are maintained in the second table below. Further information is available on-line for all of these plants in our Detailed Rare Plant and Lichen List, and for some taxa in other lists or reports, or as maps or images. The Nevada Rare Plant Atlas provides more comprehensive information, including habitat, life-history, description, threats, survey status, literature sources, and known locations, for many plant taxa. General information is available for nearly all taxa on the NatureServe Explorer web site. Click on a column heading for an explanation of that column. Changes since 9 October 1998 are shown in the same color as this sentence.
